About The Position

This is an entry-level, hybrid position that provides support to both the Accounting and Finance functions of Hoosier Energy. The Financial Analyst assists with general ledger accounting, prepares financial analyses, and supports the preparation of internal and external financial reporting. This role is designed for a recent graduate or early-career professional; no prior work experience is required. Training and mentorship will be provided to develop technical accounting and financial analysis skills while gaining exposure to the electric utility industry.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Mathematics minimum
Accounting or Finance concentration
Intermediate to Advanced computer skills
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, cost accounting, capitalization and depreciation, property taxes and financial principles
Strong analytical skills
Strong ability to communicate, both written and verbal, and possess interpersonal skills to interact with individuals at all levels and work as part of a team
Demonstrated level of professionalism, positive attitude and ability to motivate others
Strong problem solving and decision making skills to identify, anticipate and resolve problems at hand

Nice To Haves

Coursework in financial reporting or corporate finance preferred.
Internships or coursework in accounting, finance, or financial analysis are a plus.

Responsibilities

Assists with general ledger accounting activities, including preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
Assists in the preparation of internal and external financial reports, including monthly management reports, quarterly financial statements, and supporting schedules.
Performs financial analysis to support management decision-making, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and ad-hoc analytical requests.
Researches and analyzes financial, economic, operational, and regulatory data and/or information on various facets of the electric utility industry.
Supports treasury functions including day-to-day cash management and short-term cash forecasting.
Assists with financial compliance filings and maintains supporting documentation.
Assists with wholesale tariff and billing analysis.
Supports electronic payment processing and finance records management.
Maintains accounting records and financial databases and prepares supporting financial information.
Performs other duties as assigned.
