About The Position

Full-time positions at Clovis Community College are not remote positions and require a physical presence on campus to fulfill duties and college-related responsibilities. Under the direct supervision of the Financial Aid Director, the Financial Aid Specialist II performs general financial aid office activities and specialized outreach duties related to increasing and promoting awareness and participation of financial aid program amongst potentially eligible students. This position works with supervisor to develop and provide financial aid information to students, parents, staff and the general public; maintains records and assists in determining financial aid eligibility according to federal and state regulations and requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree with course work in business, social science, or related area, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Ability to communicate with students individually and to present information in a group setting.
  • Must understand the complexities in relation to non-traditional students.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with students and staff.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in computer applications is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Answer student questions regarding financial aid via phone, email, test and chat in a timely fashion.
  • Provide counsel and assistance to students experiencing unusual circumstances including application or processing difficulties, changes in financial circumstances, inadequate resources, alternative funding options, consequences when changing or dropping classes, dependency appeals, and satisfactory progress appeals.
  • Assist students with the financial aid application.
  • Explain eligibility and other factors necessary for successfully completing financial aid process.
  • Evaluate and verify financial aid applications and supporting documents for accuracy, clarity, and completeness according to detailed and complex federal and state rules and regulations.
  • Assist in interpreting, applying and complying with federal, state and institutional regulations governing student financial aid; maintain current working knowledge of guidelines/regulations related to financial aid
  • Provide eligibility information on financial aid programs to students
  • Manage scholarship activities, eligibility, awarding and disbursements for scholarships
  • Assist in packaging financial aid funds and communicate to students and parents as needed
  • Help in processing SAR-C flags, Professional Judgement, and corrections to students’ FAFSAs
  • Present financial aid orientation sessions and talks at the main campus and extension centers as well as high schools and college fairs.
  • Provide support and training during SIS Workday project, architect and configure, complete configuration workbooks, test creation and participate in testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
