About The Position

At Wycliffe Bible Translators, the Finance Strategist serves as a bridge between Finance teams, including Payroll, Gift Processing, and Corporate Accounting, and cross-functional departments. This role is responsible for implementing systems and strategies that strengthen financial operations and support organizational effectiveness, playing a pivotal role in advancing operational excellence and stewardship. The strategist will leverage experience with cross-functional teams to improve financial processes, support planning and budgeting systems, optimize workflows, strengthen controls, and align finance operations with Wycliffe Bible Translators’ mission, stewardship values, and global complexity. This involves translating complex issues into clear actionable solutions, bringing clarity and consistency through strategic centralized intake, analysis, and prioritization of payroll and other finance-related initiatives. The role requires strategic thinking, strong analytical and communication skills, and operational follow-through to foster collaboration, adaptability, and integrity, while providing essential support for Bible translation efforts worldwide. The Finance team at Wycliffe USA is crucial for advancing Bible translation by wisely stewarding resources and supporting its global workforce. This includes Corporate Accounting, Gift Processing, Member Finance, Foundation, and Payroll, all contributing to the shared mission through trusted financial services that enable ministry impact globally. The team adopts a relational approach, grounded in integrity, diligence, and a desire to serve well, focusing on operational excellence and ongoing growth to equip the organization to serve the global Church faithfully and sustainably.

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, Advanced formulas).
  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of payroll, accounting procedures, and governing laws.
  • Experience in data analysis and interpretation, identifying trends and control issues.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to Jesus Christ, as evidenced by your personal testimony.
  • Identify with and participate in a church and proactively seek to grow your faith in Christ.
  • Establish and maintain a team of prayer partners who will support you in your season of ministry at Wycliffe (minimum 3-5 partners).

Responsibilities

  • Faithfully and regularly pray for the ongoing work of Bible translation and for people from around the world to experience transformation.
  • Act as an organizational representative presenting the global ministry of Wycliffe and encouraging interested individuals, organizations and churches to participate in the work of Bible translation.
  • Collaborate on departmental initiatives to provide a best-in-class experience for Wycliffe USA future and existing staff.
  • Assist with cross-functional team responsibilities and tactical team/departmental initiatives.
  • Represent the Finance team in meetings, projects, workshops and partnership efforts, as assigned.
  • Champion accuracy, timeliness and integrity across financial processes, reporting and communication.
  • Handle financial data and interactions with professionalism, discretion, and care.
  • Strengthen a collaborative, people-centered culture that values excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Enable teams to focus on Wycliffe’s mission by ensuring payroll and finance operations are clear, compliant, and well-supported.
  • Strengthen stewardship while reducing operational risk.
  • Evaluate and improve financial processes by identifying risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities, and by developing clear workflows, controls, and operating procedures aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Assess and respond to policy, system, and regulatory changes, designing mitigation solutions and communicating impacts and expectations to stakeholders.
  • Strengthen team capability and operational consistency through training, knowledge‑sharing, and clear guidance on process changes and best practices.
  • Enhance Workday and related financial systems by ensuring data integrity and partnering with HRIS and technical teams to prioritize, design, test, and implement system updates that improve financial operations.
  • Oversee budgeting and planning systems to ensure Finance has the tools needed to support long-range priorities.
  • Collaborate with Finance leadership to strengthen budgeting methods, improve data quality, and expand reporting insights for strategic decision‑making.
  • Continuously enhance Finance systems and services to meet Wycliffe’s growing organizational and ministry needs.
  • Support the Controller by improving liquidity management and treasury strategy to strengthen decision-making and long-term sustainability.
  • Collaborate closely with Global Partnership Engagement (GPE) staff to ensure sound coordination and alignment between Finance and partnership development efforts.
  • Support global and multi-entity payroll needs while ensuring compliance, adherence to timing requirements, and cultural considerations.
  • Provide advisory guidance and support on payroll and finance operations best practices.
  • Serve as the primary intake and triage point for payroll and finance-related Workday requests, enhancements, and issues.
  • Ensure payroll and finance data integrity, audit readiness, and reporting accuracy.
  • Strengthen internal controls for payroll and financial operations.
  • Monitor compliance with payroll, tax, and financial regulations.
  • Promote consistency, accountability, and transparency across operations.
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments to identify control gaps and recommend corrective actions that strengthen financial governance.
  • Implement monitoring practices to ensure adherence to internal policies, donor requirements, and organizational accountability standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller and Vice President of Finance.
  • Adjust work schedule as needed to accommodate meetings across time zones.
