About The Position

U.S. Bancorp is seeking a Commercial Strategist to join the Sustainable Finance team within the Sustainability Office, which sits in Impact Finance in the corporate and institutional client business line (WCIB). Impact Finance houses U.S. Bancorp’s tax equity businesses, including infrastructure finance, affordable housing, new market tax credits and impact investing. The Sustainability Office drives enterprise sustainability strategy aligned to enterprise goals ($50 billion for Environmental Finance by 2030 and Net Zero by 2050), including by identifying revenue opportunities that deploy capital to clients, projects and strategies supporting community development and the transition to a low‑carbon economy. The Commercial Strategist partners across business lines, credit, risk, and external stakeholders to develop and execute new commercial strategies in community finance, climate finance and impact investing. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution to originate and advance new products, partnerships, and transactions aligned with the bank’s overall growth strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, sustainability, or related field
  • 6–10+ years of experience in banking, product development, or business development
  • Experience in sales/business development and underwriting, including financial modeling
  • Strong project management experience and stakeholder engagement skills

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated leadership presence, strong customer relationship skills and proven ability to work cross-functionally to deliver strategic projects efficiently.
  • Experience in structured finance, project finance, or asset-based finance; MBA, CFA or similar credentials a plus
  • Knowledge of tax credit investing and relevant regulatory frameworks and market practices
  • Track record of building and executing commercial strategies through to revenue realization
  • Capable of operating with ambiguity, overcoming obstacles, establishing consensus among diverse stakeholders, managing expectations, both internally and externally
  • Awareness of sustainable and climate finance market trends and established networks in those ecosystems
  • Ability to execute and negotiate terms sheets and credit agreements and other loan transaction documents in coordination with outside legal counsel

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop new revenue opportunities, including new products, client segments, and financing strategies in community development finance
  • Build market assessments and business cases, including feasibility, financial modeling, and alignment with credit and risk frameworks and business line growth strategies
  • Partner across product, credit, and enabling teams to advance ideas through new product/strategy development cycle through to execution (i.e., negotiating term sheets, developing credit pre-flight memos and achieving new product approval)
  • Represent the bank externally to source opportunities and stay ahead of market trends, while serving as an ambassador of the bank’s full suite of community finance and corporate finance capabilities
  • Ensure all activities align with credit policies, risk appetite and growth strategies and enterprise sustainable finance frameworks
