About The Position

We're looking for a Client Finance Specialist who sees the story behind the numbers. You won't just process transactions, you'll serve as a trusted financial partner to our clients, turning data into insights that help them make confident decisions and advance their missions. Candidates within the Raleigh-Durham area or within a 2-hour radius strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting or finance (bachelor's preferred) OR 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit or multi-client environment.
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks Online.
  • Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-financial audiences.
  • Comfort presenting financial information to client leadership, boards, and volunteers.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn financial forecasting and budgeting, not just historical reporting.
  • A proactive mindset where you flag issues and suggest solutions before being asked.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and collaboratively across teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Tenacious. You are determined to succeed and driven by a desire to make a difference.
  • Curious. You don't just post the numbers, you ask why and what's next.
  • Proactive. You see around corners. When something looks off, you raise it. When there's a better way, you suggest it.
  • Humble. No task is too big or too small. You roll up your sleeves and embrace feedback with open arms.
  • Relationship-Oriented. You understand that finance is a service to people. You build trust with every interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable — processing invoices, expense reports, and payments accurately and on time.
  • Reconcile bank and investment accounts monthly; monitor and report client expenditures and expense allocations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial reports in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee the monthly close process, maintain the general ledger in QuickBooks Online, and manage fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
  • Support annual audits and tax filings with organized schedules, confirmation letters, and documentation.
  • Proactively identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities and translate them into plain-language insights for client boards and leadership.
  • Collaborate with Account Executives on client budget planning, forecasting, and long-term sustainability conversations.
  • Recommend process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and client confidence in company's financial stewardship.
