About The Position

Rillet is hiring a Forward-Deployed Finance Engineer to work with high-priority customers and help automate their accounting. The role embeds with strategic customers or prospects to understand their close processes, identify manual work that can be automated, and design and deploy accounting agents with appropriate controls, review steps, and audit trails. The engineer measures the impact of this work and turns insights gathered across customers into product improvements, building some features from prototype to production with engineering support and partnering with product teams on others. The position also creates reusable playbooks, templates, and agent patterns and represents the controller’s perspective on accounting quality, audit requirements, and human review. Candidates should be based near Rillet’s New York City or San Francisco offices, or be open to relocating. The team works in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays and one additional flexible day each week; some roles may require more office time.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in accounting.
  • Experience owning the month-end close as a senior accountant, accounting manager, or controller, either in-house or out of Big 4.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP sufficient to defend an accounting entry to an auditor, including revenue accounting.
  • Based near the New York City or San Francisco offices, or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with 3–5 strategic customers or prospects and map their close processes, including bank coding, accounts payable, revenue, accruals, commissions, reconciliations, flux, and reporting.
  • Identify high-leverage manual accounting work and automate it using approaches that are high quality and durable.
  • Build and deploy agents that perform accounting work with controls, review steps, and audit trails suitable for controller sign-off.
  • Measure results using days to close, hours saved, and error rates.
  • Identify patterns across customer implementations and determine which should become product features.
  • Write clear product briefs based on customer work and observations.
  • Build selected Rillet features from prototype to production with engineering support.
  • Partner with relevant product domain teams on other product improvements.
  • Create reusable playbooks, templates, and agent patterns for Rillet customers.
  • Represent the controller’s perspective within Rillet, including accounting standards, audit expectations, and where automation requires a human in the loop.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay and meaningful equity.
  • Competitive benefits designed to support health, wellbeing, time away from work, family, and long-term financial goals.
  • Team meals, events, and company gatherings.
