We are seeking a versatile and hands-on Finance Controller to lead our financial operations. Because we are a growing small business, this role requires a unique blend of skills and will afford many opportunities for influence. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations and some financial planning. If you are someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves to manage the daily ledger, but also loves analyzing data to build strategic forecasts, this role is for you.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience blending accounting and financial analysis, preferably within a small-to-medium-sized business environment.
  • Deep proficiency in QuickBooks Online and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Sheets.
  • High attention to detail for the accounting side + big-picture strategic thinking for the finance side.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Curiosity and energy to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, team environment with little oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee team and execute some daily accounting functions to ensure timely AP/AR.
  • Run payroll and keep compensation up to date in the payroll system.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end financial close process, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Coordinate with external tax professionals/CPAs to ensure timely and accurate local, state, and federal tax filings.
  • Ensure the business stays compliant with all relevant financial regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external financial and insurance audits.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
  • Conduct variance analysis (Budget vs. Actuals) and report key financial health metrics to the leadership team.
  • Act as a financial sounding board for the CEO/Owner, providing data-driven recommendations to improve profitability, fair pay, reduce costs, and support business growth.
