Homeward Trust is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual to join our Finance team as a full-time Finance Clerk for a 10-week placement (35 hours per week). The successful candidate will provide day-to-day support across the Finance departments by supporting the full-cycle accounts payable functions, maintaining financial records, entering and retrieving data from accounting systems, and investigating and resolving discrepancies.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a fourth year or recently completed a program in Finance, Accounting or a related program at a recognized post-secondary institution.
Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
Must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
Must have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
High attention to detail and accuracy, especially when handling sensitive or confidential information.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with diverse individuals in-person, over the phone, and via email.
Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); experience with document management tools and digital signatures is an asset.
Willingness to learn, take initiative, and adapt to changing priorities.
Demonstrated professionalism and discretion in working with sensitive matters or organizational protocols.

Nice To Haves

Previous administrative, office, or co-op/internship experience is an asset but not required.
Related experience in accounts receivable and payables is an asset
Related experience in payroll is an asset
Interest in the non-profit or public service sector is considered an asset.
experience with document management tools and digital signatures is an asset.

Responsibilities

Verifying invoices for accuracy, preparing for approval, obtain approvals, post invoices to accounting software, prepare payment journal for payment
Print cheques for signatures and mailing
Process credit card transactions and ensure that payments are made, reconciliations are prepared, and related accounting entries are posted
Prepare bank deposits and ensure accounting entries are posted in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization
Process expense claims and prepare cheque requisitions
Enter and or upload claims from agencies
Ensure appropriate documentation of all stages through processing financial information, entering information into the appropriate accounting system of database, retrieving required data and performing financial activities, as requested
Ensure accuracy of financial transactions conducting necessary reconciliation, including investigation and resolution of differences
Prepare and distribute invoices for receivables as required and ensure that accounting entries are posted in accordance to the policies and procedures of the organization
Other duties may be assigned as required
