Mid-Level Finance Associate

Smith AndersonRaleigh, NC

About The Position

Smith Anderson is seeking a Mid-Level Finance Associate to join its Finance Practice. This practice is a cornerstone of the firm’s transactional platform, representing borrowers, banks, non-bank lenders, and private credit providers in complex financing transactions nationwide. The team of more than 20 finance attorneys brings experience from leading global law firms and advises on a full range of matters, including corporate and syndicated finance, sponsor and specialty finance, mezzanine finance, venture and technology finance, fund finance, and real estate finance. Associates in this group gain hands-on experience working directly with experienced deal teams on complex, fast-moving matters for high-caliber clients, particularly in demanding closing environments. The role requires strong academic credentials, attention to detail, and an interest in developing market-informed judgment on transaction structures, documentation, and negotiation strategy within a collaborative, team-oriented practice. The ideal candidate will have three to five years of experience representing lenders in commercial real estate loan transactions, including acquisition, development, and construction financing. In particular, we prefer candidates with experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial real estate lending documentation, as well as reviewing title, survey, leases, and other aspects of commercial real estate transaction due diligence. Additionally, the candidate should exhibit a practical, solution-oriented, and collaborative practice style, the ability to interact directly with clients and work independently and as part of a team, exercise judgment, use practice problem-solving, and be willing to take a leadership role in managing cases and other projects. The candidate should also demonstrate a willingness to help continue to build a long-term practice, possess strong academic credentials and writing skills, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing the highest quality service to clients. Raleigh and the broader Research Triangle offer an exceptional professional and personal environment, being a major center for business, education, and innovation with leading universities, a strong commercial real estate market, and sustained economic growth. Attorneys practicing in the Triangle benefit from sophisticated, high-quality work combined with a strong sense of community, reasonable cost of living, and an excellent quality of life. Smith Anderson is committed to fostering a culture of collaboration, strategy, and cohesiveness that supports both clients and people, offering a supportive professional environment with robust training and mentoring programs, meaningful engagement with firm leadership, and opportunities for career growth tailored to individual goals, including alternative career path mentoring and development options.
