About The Position

At PNNL, our core capabilities are divided among major departments that we refer to as Directorates within the Lab, focused on a specific area of scientific research or other function, with its own leadership team and dedicated budget. Our directorates related to Mission Support & Operations include Office of General Counsel, Business Services, Communications and External Engagement, Operational Systems, Communications and Information Technology, and Performance Management. The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides crucial financial, procurement and sales, and project management services to PNNL, as required under our management and operations contract for operating the Lab on behalf of the Department of Energy. Requirements

  • BS/BA and 5 years of relevant experience -OR- MS/MA or higher and 3 years of relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of financial accounting and reporting systems, general accounting practices, and strong analytical, process development and communication skills are required.
  • A high degree of knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel is a requirement.
  • Assignments may be wide in scope requiring a broad background of experience or independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.
  • Has substantial understanding of the job and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks.
  • Skilled in the use of basic financial and accounting systems and software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, MIS or a related business field.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing financial reporting for DOE and Battelle’s Pacific Northwest Division (PNWD).
  • Developing reporting schedules, communicating monthly and year-end closing deadlines, coordinating post-closing entries, translating financial data for STARS, performing validation checks, and uploading monthly financial information into DOE’s STARS accounting system.
  • Providing BSD’s senior management with quarterly account analysis, integrated contractor trial balance recon, STARS to BV recons, suspense reporting and the corporate reporting package.
  • Completing the 3rd and 4th quarter DOE reporting, generating the Schedule of Cost Incurred and Claimed (SCIC).
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for financial questions from Oak Ridge Operation (ORO), the Pacific Northwest Site Office (PNSO), and Battelle corporate operations.
  • Providing extensive audit support in responding to DCAA, DOE, and Internal Audits, including collaborating across BSD to write compelling management responses.
  • Effectively deploying financial reporting requirements, tracking the performance of Self-Assessment measures, and supporting A-123 through the development of internal controls that mitigate risks.
  • Providing training to BSD staff on the DOE STARS process, focusing on the impact of Financial Processing System (FPS) entries on DOE STARS reporting.
  • Responding to other miscellaneous ad hoc reporting and reconciliation requests, and answering questions from core accounting groups on the DOE STARS process.
