About The Position

The Finance & Accounting Professional performs a variety of financial and/or accounting activities, which may include the maintenance, control, analysis and development of complex financial/accounting records, reports, and systems and their ongoing support. These positions provide or assist in business advice and services to management and staff to ensure compliance with applicable federal laws, regulations, policies, and sound business practices and adhere to and communicate business policies and procedures, including training and interpretation for the various organizations supported. At PNNL, our core capabilities are divided among major departments that we refer to as Directorates within the Lab, focused on a specific area of scientific research or other function, with its own leadership team and dedicated budget. Our directorates related to Mission Support & Operations include Office of General Counsel, Business Services, Communications and External Engagement, Operational Systems, Communications and Information Technology, and Performance Management. The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides crucial financial, procurement and sales, and project management services to PNNL, as required under our management and operations contract for operating the Lab on behalf of the Department of Energy. Requirements

  • BS/BA and 2+ years of relevant experience -OR- MS/MA or higher

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Battelle's financial systems and processes highly desired.
  • Demonstrate proficient use of standard office equipment; demonstrate proficient use of MS Office Suite (specifically Excel and Access).
  • Knowledge of FAR, DEAR, Cost Accounting Standards and PNNL Charging Guidelines preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs key accounting tasks in one or more of the following areas: General Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Property Management, Treasury Services, Accounts Payable, Payroll & Tax, and Travel Services
  • Conducts monthly analyses to provide management information on the performance of costs and financial information
  • Performs and provides technical support to others for accounting entries, account reconciliations and general accounting questions
  • Prepares, reviews, and validates financial data
  • Documents procedures to ensure compliance with government accounting requirements
  • Provides support to internal and external auditors, as directed by management
  • Provides advice and services to management and staff to ensure compliance with applicable federal laws, regulations, policies, and good business practices
  • Assists in the adherence to and communication of business policies and procedures, including training and interpretation for the various organizations supported
  • Develops solutions to standard problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Identifies opportunities and risks and makes recommendations affecting organizational objectives
  • Interacts with internal and external personnel. Mentors and motivates junior team members and utilizes their areas of strength
  • Works with a moderate level of guidance and direction. Seeks out collaborative opportunities
