Working alongside experienced finance professionals, the Finance/Accounting Intern will contribute to essential functions including accounts payable and receivable, cash management, and maintaining accurate financial records in alignment with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, values attention to detail, and is eager to build practical accounting and finance skills in a public service setting. Under supervision, the finance/accounting intern is a temporary entry-level position designed to allow students to apply their academic knowledge in a professional environment. The position will perform moderately complex clerical and technical accounting tasks in accordance with Generally Accepted Standard Accounting Principles (GAAP). Responsibilities include working with internal and external stakeholders in support of accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and maintaining accounting records within bookkeeping standards. Duties may include, but are not limited to preparing deposits, processing invoices for payment, responding to general inquiries from staff and vendors, and entering transactions into accounting system. The intern will collaborate closely with the entire finance team to identify and reconcile discrepancies, compile documentation, and create a record of corrective action. This position requires strong problem solving and critical thinking skills to troubleshoot and resolve data and processing issues. This position also requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
