About The Position

The Filling Technician is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient filling, packaging, labeling, and preparation of finished coating products for distribution. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that finished products meet Tnemec's quality, packaging, labeling, and customer requirements. The Filling Technician operates filling and packaging equipment, verifies product and packaging information, performs routine quality checks, maintains accurate production documentation, and works as part of the manufacturing team to achieve daily production goals. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, dependability, commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Entry Level candidates that successfully complete all training and requirements can progress to $23.00 per hour in the first year.

Requirements

All candidates must complete a 2-3 hour Pre-Employment Assessment Day. This will consist of the interview, plant tour, and skill assessment testing.
High school diploma, GED, or demonstrated ability to successfully perform the reading, mathematics, measurement, and documentation requirements of the position.
Ability to read and understand production instructions, labels, safety information, and work procedures.
Ability to perform basic manufacturing mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, weights, and measurements.
Ability to accurately distinguish product labels, codes, numbers, and other visual information.

Nice To Haves

Previous manufacturing, production, warehouse, filling, packaging, or industrial experience.
Experience working in coatings, chemical manufacturing, paint, adhesives, specialty chemicals, or a similar process-manufacturing environment.
Experience operating automated or semi-automated filling and packaging equipment.
Forklift or powered industrial truck experience.

Responsibilities

Operate filling, packaging, labeling, and related production equipment safely and efficiently.
Fill finished coatings and related products into designated containers according to established work instructions and production requirements.
Verify the correct product, container size, label, lid, packaging materials, and quantity before beginning each filling operation.
Monitor filling equipment to ensure proper fill weights and consistent product flow.
Properly seal, label, package, palletize, and prepare finished products for movement to inventory or distribution.
Change over filling equipment between products, container sizes, and production runs.
Perform routine equipment adjustments within established operating procedures.
Assist with equipment setup, cleaning, and sanitation between production runs.
Maintain an organized flow of materials throughout the filling and packaging process.
Verify product identification against batch tickets, filling instructions, and production documentation before filling begins.
Confirm labels accurately match the product, batch number, container size, and other required information.
Perform required fill-weight checks and document results.
Visually inspect finished containers for defects including: Incorrect or damaged labels, Improperly applied labels, Damaged containers, Improper seals or lids, Paint or coating residue on containers, Incorrect fill levels, Packaging defects.
Immediately stop or escalate the process when a potential quality issue is identified.
Segregate questionable or nonconforming material according to established procedures.
Complete required production and quality documentation accurately and timely.
Support the company's goal of producing quality product correctly the first time.
Perform all work in accordance with company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
Safely work around coatings, solvents, chemicals, industrial equipment, forklifts, and other manufacturing hazards.
Understand and follow chemical labeling, Safety Data Sheet, and hazardous-material handling requirements.
Immediately report unsafe conditions, spills, equipment problems, injuries, and near misses.
Follow established procedures for spill prevention, containment, and cleanup.
Participate in safety meetings, training, inspections, and continuous safety improvement activities.
Maintain awareness of pedestrian and powered industrial truck traffic within the manufacturing environment.
Perform routine pre-operational inspections of assigned equipment.
Identify equipment abnormalities and communicate problems promptly to supervision or Maintenance.
Perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments within the scope of established training.
Assist with equipment changeovers and production line setup.
Follow lockout/tagout and equipment safety requirements when applicable.
Protect equipment from unnecessary damage and immediately report maintenance concerns.
Support efforts to reduce equipment downtime and improve production efficiency.
Work to achieve established production and filling expectations while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Minimize product loss, packaging waste, rework, and unnecessary downtime.
Participate in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement activities.
Identify opportunities to improve workplace organization, safety, quality, and efficiency.
Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift.
Participate in production meetings and communicate issues that may impact schedule attainment.
Assist other production areas when necessary and qualified.
Accurately complete production records, quality checks, inventory transactions, and other required documentation.
Follow established standard operating procedures and work instructions.
Maintain accurate product and batch traceability.
Immediately communicate production discrepancies or documentation errors.
Take ownership for the accuracy and quality of work performed.
Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality to support production requirements.
