Job Family Definition: Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design. Management Level Definition: Applies developed subject matter knowledge to solve common and complex business and technical issues within established guidelines and recommends appropriate alternatives. Works on problems of diverse complexity and scope. May act as a project leader providing direction to team activities and facilitating decision-making. Exercises independent judgment within generally defined policies and practices to identify and select a solution. Handles most unique situations independently but may seek advice on highly complex issues. Provides guidance and mentoring to lower-level professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
  • Typically, 4-7 years' experience.
  • Strong proficiency in systems programming languages, specifically C, alongside capabilities in Python, Bash, or Rust.
  • Solid architectural knowledge of the Lustre file system codebase and Linux OS internals (page cache, memory management).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for debugging distributed state machines and system-level I/O bottlenecks.
  • Experience designing and maintaining software systems running on high-performance computing clusters and enterprise storage networks.
  • Software systems testing methodology, including performance profiling and debugging using tracing tools (e.g., strace, perf).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate design proposals and collaborate efficiently within the engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Designs enhancements, updates, and programming changes for specific subsystems of parallel file systems, including Lustre and underlying Linux kernel I/O stacks.
  • Analyzes design and determines coding, programming, and integration activities required for assigned features, such as layout evolution, Object Storage Target (OST) striping policies, or data tiering.
  • Writes and executes complete testing plans, protocols, and documentation for assigned storage subsystems; identifies, debugs, and creates solutions for direct I/O call stacks, VFS bottlenecks, and kernel panics.
  • Collaborates seamlessly with a project team of software systems engineers and internal partners to develop reliable, high-performance storage solutions for HPC and AI workloads.
  • Communicates with management and internal development partners regarding software systems design status, project progress, and issue resolution for assigned components.
  • Participates as a key technical contributor in the storage software engineering team across various phases of larger enterprise storage architecture projects.
  • Provides guidance, code review, and mentoring to less-experienced staff members.
