About The Position

Our Operations group is currently looking to add a Field Trainer & Work Methods Specialist to our growing team, based in Edmonton, AB. Reporting to the Director of Operations, we are seeking an experienced and hands-on training professional with a background in powerline construction to develop, implement, and enhance work methods and training programs across Valard's Distribution, Transmission, and Substations business units. This role ensures operational teams have the knowledge, skills, and tools required to perform their work safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards. Please Note: This position requires regular travel across Canada to deliver field and classroom training sessions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 7+ years of demonstrated ability developing, facilitating, and maintaining training programs and work methods for field and office audiences
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered
  • Knowledge of powerline construction practices, utility-owned power systems, and applicable safety regulations and compliance standards
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with field crews and leadership alike
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operational software tools
  • Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly across Canada

Nice To Haves

  • Post-Secondary education in Electricity, Powerline Technology, Industrial Technology
  • Experience in powerline construction, maintenance, or a related operational role
  • Certified Journeyperson Powerline Technician (RSE) trade ticket
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience supporting apprenticeship programs or workforce development initiatives
  • Familiarity with project management principles and continuous improvement methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain training programs, standardized work methods, and procedures to ensure consistent operational practices across all projects and business units
  • Lead technical training initiatives, workshops, and hands-on coaching sessions for field and office teams to enhance knowledge, skills, and safety awareness
  • Conduct competency assessments, practical evaluations, and operational reviews to identify gaps, risks, and training opportunities; provide field coaching and support to crews and leaders
  • Assist with onboarding and apprenticeship development initiatives, providing orientation and guidance on operational best practices
  • Advise on the selection and use of tools, equipment, and methodologies to optimize operational performance
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, workflow optimization, and adoption of innovative technologies and construction techniques
  • Design, coordinate, and evaluate pilot programs covering new tools, equipment, or alternative construction methods; analyze field team and stakeholder feedback to refine programs and procedures
  • Develop and implement strategies to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement across operational teams
  • Partner with Operations leadership, Safety, and Training and Development to ensure alignment of training initiatives with business objectives
  • Serve as a liaison between operational teams and leadership, communicating training progress, challenges, and recommendations
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, and industry partners to incorporate best practices and innovations into training programs
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and dashboards on training outcomes, process improvements, and operational performance metrics
