About The Position

As a Field Technician, you will be responsible for performing comprehensive diagnostics, maintenance, inspections, and repairs on trucks, specialized railroad fleet equipment, and heavy machinery such as excavators and backhoes in field environments. This role involves traveling to customer sites, rail yards, and remote locations in a company vehicle to conduct DOT, FRA, and crane inspections, troubleshoot engines, HVAC systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, and drivetrain components, and ensure all equipment remains safe and operational. Duties include independently removing, installing, repairing, disassembling, assembling, and performing failure analysis on systems such as engines, attachments, electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, power train, brakes, steering, and electronic and computer applications, while building strong customer relationships to promote trust and loyalty.

Requirements

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostics, maintenance, inspections, and repairs on trucks, specialized railroad fleet equipment, and heavy machinery such as excavators and backhoes in field environments.
  • Travel to customer sites, rail yards, and remote locations in a company vehicle.
  • Conduct DOT, FRA, and crane inspections.
  • Troubleshoot engines, HVAC systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, and drivetrain components.
  • Ensure all equipment remains safe and operational.
  • Independently remove, install, repair, disassemble, assemble, and perform failure analysis on systems such as engines, attachments, electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, power train, brakes, steering, and electronic and computer applications.
  • Build strong customer relationships to promote trust and loyalty.
  • Reference service manuals, diagnostic software, and parts catalogs.
  • Order necessary parts for repairs, assess reusability, and determine failure causes.
  • Work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and strong communication with customers.
  • Provide real-time updates to customers on diagnostics, repairs, and estimated completion times.
  • Complete and submit service reports, time entries, and all required documentation daily via laptop and email.

Responsibilities

  • Travels to customer locations, rail yards, and job sites to perform on-site repairs, maintenance, and diagnostics of trucks and railroad fleet equipment.
  • Conducts DOT, FRA, and crane inspections to ensure fleet compliance with federal and industry regulations.
  • Diagnoses and repairs engines, HVAC systems, electrical components, hydraulic systems, braking systems, powertrains, and other mechanical and electronic systems.
  • References service manuals, diagnostic software, and parts catalogs to determine faults and verify repair specifications.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting and failure analysis to identify the root cause of mechanical and electrical issues. Escalates unresolved problems to Technical Communicators as needed.
  • Orders necessary parts for repairs, assesses reusability, and determines failure causes.
  • Occasionally performs repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment, including excavators, backhoes, and other machinery when required.
  • Works independently in the field with minimal supervision while maintaining a professional demeanor and strong communication with customers.
  • Provides real-time updates to customers on diagnostics, repairs, and estimated completion times.
  • Completes and submits service reports, time entries, and all required documentation daily via laptop and email.
