About The Position

PPM Consultants, Inc., an environmental consulting firm, is seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Environmental Field Technician to join our Baton Rouge, Louisiana team. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and enjoys hands-on work in an outdoor environment. This position requires the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with project managers, engineers, geologists, and environmental scientists. Candidates with mechanical aptitude, industrial maintenance, construction, manufacturing, utility, or other technical trade experience are encouraged to apply. Previous environmental consulting experience is preferred but not required. PPM is willing to train motivated individuals who have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to safety. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to detail.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and field equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous environmental field experience.
  • Experience with groundwater sampling, remediation systems, or environmental monitoring.
  • Experience in industrial maintenance, construction, manufacturing, utilities, or another technical trade.
  • Experience troubleshooting pumps, motors, electrical controls, or mechanical equipment.
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (or ability to obtain after hire).
  • Associate degree or technical training in environmental science, engineering technology, industrial maintenance, geology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Collect soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air, and other environmental samples in accordance with project requirements.
  • Perform groundwater monitoring and sampling activities.
  • Assist with environmental site assessments, remediation projects, and regulatory compliance inspections.
  • Operate, inspect, monitor, and maintain environmental remediation systems and field equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues associated with remediation equipment.
  • Record field observations, measurements, and sampling data accurately using field logs and electronic devices.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, calibration, and maintenance.
  • Safely operate pumps, generators, hand tools, power tools, GPS equipment, and company vehicles.
  • Support drilling, excavation, and subcontractor oversight activities.
  • Assist with environmental compliance monitoring for commercial, industrial, and municipal clients.
  • Maintain compliance with all company health and safety procedures and project-specific safety plans.
  • Travel to project sites throughout Louisiana and neighboring states as needed, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Assist with other field assignments and environmental projects as required.
