About The Position

Intertek is seeking an entry-level Field Technician for Construction Materials Testing to join their Professional Services Industries Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role offers a hands-on, outdoor position where you will test materials like concrete and soil on active construction sites. It is described as a strong entry point into the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry with opportunities for career growth into higher-level roles. Intertek's Building & Construction division is a leader in providing product and project solutions, with services in assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting for new developments, existing assets, and facilities. Intertek-PSI specifically supports major infrastructure and commercial projects across the U.S.

Requirements

  • No experience required - we will train entry-level candidates and encourage them to apply
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record is required
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal and listening) and solid interpersonal skills are required
  • Basic math, calculator, and computer skills are required
  • The ability to read and understand work plans is required
  • Must be able to work off shift and overtime as needed
  • Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds if needed. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
  • Ability to climb occasionally

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred
  • Experience performing field and/or construction materials testing and/or inspections is preferred
  • Industry relevant certifications are preferred (ACI, ICC, DOT)

Responsibilities

  • Perform field testing on soil, concrete, and other construction materials
  • Observe site activities and document results
  • Work with construction plans, specs, and field data
  • Communicate with project teams and clients
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain accurate reports
