Entry-Level Field Technician - Construction Materials Testing
About The Position
Intertek is seeking an entry-level Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician to join their Professional Services Industries Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role offers a hands-on, outdoor position where technicians test materials like concrete and soil on active construction sites. It is presented as a strong entry point into the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry with opportunities for career growth into higher-level roles. Intertek's Building & Construction division is a leader in providing assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting services for the built environment.
Requirements
- No experience required - we will train entry-level candidates and encourage them to apply
- Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record is required
- Effective communication skills (written, verbal and listening) and solid interpersonal skills are required
- Basic math, calculator, and computer skills are required
- The ability to read and understand work plans is required
- Must be able to work off shift and overtime as needed
- Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds if needed. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound
- Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
- Ability to climb occasionally
Nice To Haves
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred
- Experience performing field and/or construction materials testing and/or inspections is preferred
- Industry relevant certifications are preferred (ACI, ICC, DOT)
Responsibilities
- Perform field testing on soil, concrete, and other construction materials
- Observe site activities and document results
- Work with construction plans, specs, and field data
- Communicate with project teams and clients
- Follow safety procedures and maintain accurate reports
