About The Position

We are seeking a Field System Specialist to prepare work authorization documents for technicians and support personnel across various communication systems, including Transmission Systems. This role involves interpreting technical documents, performing field surveys, writing work orders, and collaborating with various teams to ensure efficient and accurate project execution. This is a represented staff position with the IBEW Union.

Requirements

  • Associate of Science or Technical Trade School in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Six (6) years related experience or successful completion of a State or Military approved bona fide work-related apprenticeship program recognized by the US Department of Labor.
  • Extensive knowledge in specialized functions of communications systems.
  • A wide and comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of communications systems and their practical application to complex problems and situations.
  • Ability to analyze issues and resolve technical problems while collaborating with design engineers, technicians, and customers.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to operate and use a vast array of communication test equipment.
  • Ability to complete and maintain company and customer certification/training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering, project management plans, and manufacturers' documents, manuals, catalogs, drawings, and schematics to develop work authorization documents (e.g., Maximo work orders, trouble tickets, temporary test configuration documents).
  • Develop work sequences, methods, and procedures for the fabrication, installation, operation, and maintenance of communication systems and equipment.
  • Perform field surveys, including reviewing work areas, making notes, drawing sketches, taking photographs, creating parts lists, and documenting equipment configuration.
  • Collaborate with engineering, system planners, technicians, and other support personnel to prepare work authorization documents.
  • Write work orders and review them with customers, technicians, engineering, and other support personnel to clarify work requirements.
  • Participate in meetings and technical discussions to ensure a complete understanding of system work requirements.
  • Analyze schedule dates and material/parts delivery dates to develop work schedules, project completion dates, and projected labor hours.
  • Write technical descriptions specifying material qualities, parts lists, and properties, using knowledge of material standards and communications equipment.
  • Generate Material Requests (MR) for the procurement of parts and materials in coordination with Logistics.
  • Organize material and complete work authorization assignments according to department standards.
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions, selecting photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate correct work configuration for closing out documentation.
  • Communicate with technicians, engineers, and customers to troubleshoot issues or problems as they occur.
  • Provide clarification of work instructions to others.
  • Instruct the workforce on the use of test equipment.
  • Assist technicians in the field by supporting missions.
  • Troubleshoot and isolate problems using test equipment, manufacturer manuals, internal documentation, reference and operating procedures, and schematics.
  • Provide, update, and maintain all required documentation, reports, and logs, manually or in electronic databases.
  • Enter, update, ensure accuracy, and maintain document control and configuration systems.
  • Make recommendations to improve work quality, efficiencies, and productivity.
  • Adhere to OSHA, NASA, Company, and customer safety requirements.
  • Assist in training others.
