About The Position

The Transmission System Coordinator (TSC) is responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the electric transmission system. This involves creating and issuing switching and protective tagging orders, monitoring system conditions, performing voltage control, coordinating operations with other entities, running power flow studies, and determining corrective actions during emergencies. The role requires maintaining NERC System Operator certification and involves working rotating shifts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical school training or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts - 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week/ 365 days a year.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, work in a high stress environment with speed and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Good analytical ability and able to make independent decisions based on analysis in a limited time frame.
  • Ability to provide leadership in emergency situations.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
  • For TSC Associate: Associate's degree preferred. Electric utility experience in engineering, field operations and/or control room operations preferred. Lock out/tag out implementation experience in transmission or distribution system preferred.
  • For TSC I: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in real time operation, preferably in a transmission control room environment; or successful completion of the Transmission System Coordinator, Associate training program required. North American Reliability Corporation (NERC) Certified System Operator Reliability Coordinator certificate.
  • For TSC 2: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in real time operations, preferably in a transmission control room environment. North American Reliability Corporation (NERC) Certified System Operator Reliability Coordinator certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Skills in system security analysis, operator load flow studies, voltage monitoring, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) operation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes equipment outage requests and plans orderly shutdowns.
  • Monitors system security using the Energy Management System (EMS) and other tools.
  • Runs operation power flow studies when necessary.
  • Coordinates switching and protective red tagging orders with interconnected companies.
  • Develops restoration plans for unplanned outages and takes corrective actions to restore the system.
  • Dispatches necessary workforce for repairs.
  • Writes reports on major outages or system events.
  • Maintains and increases knowledge of the transmission system through training activities, seminars, and field visits.
  • Completes training activities to achieve NERC System Operator Certificate at the Reliability Coordinator level (Associate level).
  • Complies with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Regional Entity reliability standards (TSC I & II).
  • Takes or directs necessary actions during normal and emergency conditions to maintain transmission system stability, including implementing or directing load shedding (TSC I & II).
  • Creates and issues switching and protective red tagging orders on the transmission system (TSC I & II).
  • Maintains an accurate and complete shift log of events, including operational events and computer system issues (TSC I & II).
  • Uses English for all communications between operating personnel (TSC I & II).
  • Maintains NERC System Operator Certificate at the Reliability Coordinator level (TSC I & II).
  • Assists in training lower-level Transmission System Coordinators (TSC I & II).
