About The Position

A field supervisor (FS) is a contracted certified educator employed by WTAMU that will observe teacher candidates, and monitor their performance by evaluating and providing constructive feedback to the novice teachers to improve their effectiveness as developing educators. Field supervisors serve as a liaison between the school district and the university to create a positive and valuable experience for interns and clinical teachers. They are instrumental in the growth of educators by sharing feedback with the teacher candidate using effective coaching strategies, and collaborating with the mentor/cooperating teacher(s) and administrator(s). Field supervisors will be involved with field observations and support for their assigned candidates. Field Supervisors will conduct formal observations and informal observations when the candidate is completing their clinical teaching experience or internship. In addition, the field supervisor will keep documentation of their work with their assigned novice teacher. This position works during the Fall and Spring semesters in alignment with local school district calendars.
Formal observations Field Supervisors will conduct preconferences, classroom observations, and post-conferences (POP cycles) with candidates. The in-person classroom observation must be a minimum of 45 minutes, while the individualized preconference and interactive post conference is approximately 15-30 minutes. The preconference can be done via zoom, phone, and/or email. The post-conference must be synchronous by phone, zoom, or face-to-face to meet TEA requirements. The Field Supervisor will submit written evaluation feedback to the candidate, mentor, and administrator. The FS will be given three hours of time credit for completing a formal observation (which includes preconference, classroom observation, post-conference, and write-up of observation report).
Informal observations The informal walkthrough observation is a brief 15-minute check-in with the candidate to see how they are doing on the action steps provided to them during their formal observation(s). During the informal walkthrough observation, the field supervisor provides additional feedback to the candidate. The FS will be given one hour of time credit for completing an informal walkthrough observation
Trainings for Field Supervisors: The field supervision position requires completion of mandatory training Texas Education Agency (TEA)-approved T-TESS Field Supervisor Observation training and WTAMU’s EPP training for Field Supervisors. TEA-approved T-TESS Field Supervisor observation training This training is required by TEA of all Field Supervisors to help them to be prepared in how to coach and support a teacher candidate. The T-TESS Field Supervisor Observation Training must be provided by an approved trainer. Once this training is complete, you will be provided a certificate for your records that you must submit to WT’s EPP. If the FS has a T-TESS appraiser certificate that is active, they may submit the appraiser certificate to WT for documentation in lieu of the TEA-T-TESS FS observation training. Note: Once the appraiser certificate goes inactive, the mandatory TEA T-TESS Field Supervisor training and certificate is required. Note: starting 9/1/2026, all Field Supervisors will need re-trained on the T-TESS Field Supervisor observation training every three years (unless they hold the valid, active T-TESS appraiser certificate). Educator Preparation Program (EPP) Training The EPP training is to go over the expectations, processes, and forms used by WT Field Supervisors. This training will be provided at least twice a year. Compensation for completing the training will be two hours.
Travel and mileage reimbursement Field Supervisors must be willing to utilize their personal vehicle to travel to visit preservice teachers and to submit required paperwork to receive reimbursement for mileage. WTAMU will provide processes and forms to help Field Supervisors get reimbursed monthly for their travel. WT FS should be willing to travel within a 100-mile radius to supervise clinical teachers or interns.
Workload & Pay for WTAMU Field Supervisors Fields Supervisors will be assigned clinical teachers (known as student teachers) and ACP interns (known as PACE interns); the load can be from 8-14 candidates depending on the semester. Field Supervisors cannot work more than 19 hours per week or (5-6 candidate observations a week, if possible). The Department of Education will pay supervision costs including observations at the following rates: $90.00 per formal observation report plus mileage for a Clinical Teacher (CT) or ACP intern. Each observation completion will be counted as three hours in the WT workday system. The three hours includes drive time, pre- and post-conference time, classroom observations, and submission of written coaching feedback to the candidate. $30.00 per informal observation for a CT or ACP intern. Each observation completion will be counted as one hour in the WT workday system.

Requirements

• Valid certification in the class in which supervision is provided
• Hired by the educator preparation program (EPP)
• Must complete the Texas A&M System hiring paperwork through HR.
• Must have three years of creditable experience and current certification in the class in which supervision is provided
• Participates in Texas Education Agency-approved T-TESS Field Supervisor Observation training to observe clinical teachers and ACP interns.
• Or provide a certificate of completion of this TEA one-day T-TESS Observation Field Supervisor training from another program/institution for our TEA records.
• Or hold an active T-TESS appraiser training certificate (three-day)
