About The Position

Field Supervisors on the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) study are responsible for supervising and supporting a team of field staff who will conduct in-person data collection. This role involves recruiting, hiring, and retaining staff, preparing and adjusting work assignments for cost-effective field implementation, and ensuring adherence to project schedules and performance requirements. The supervisor will review production, time, and expense reports, provide feedback to research associates, and work with staff to identify and solve challenges. They must meet performance expectations in efficiency, quality, screening, and interviewing completion rates while maintaining confidentiality. The position requires participation in weekly conference calls with project management and assigned staff, serving as a liaison between RTI project management and the field team, and providing immediate feedback and ongoing training. Field Supervisors will use a project-provided laptop and secure RTI email for communication and administrative tasks, maintain good communication with staff, and be accessible to provide support. They will also submit timely and accurate Time & Expense reports, conduct in-person field observations when required, and be available for overnight travel (4 trips per year, up to 1 week per trip).

Requirements

  • Previous field supervisory experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Effective communication skills through speech and listening
  • Fluency in English through reading, writing, and speaking
  • Available for entire training and data collection period
  • Able to successfully complete training
  • Must have a valid US driver's license and reliable personal automobile transportation available for business use
  • Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop, and other associated equipment
  • Access to password protected WiFi connection for data transmission and administrative responsibilities
  • Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet set deadlines
  • Willingness to work in various types of weather conditions and after dark
  • Available for overnight travel, as required up to 4 trips per year; up to 1 week per trip
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, a REAL ID, or TSA approved alternative for air travel

Responsibilities

  • Preparing work assignments to ensure cost-effective field implementation as well as adjusting work assignments, as necessary ensuring adherence to project schedules and attainment of established performance requirements
  • Reviewing production, time, and expense reports to ensure timely, accurate, and reasonable project charges
  • Providing feedback to research associates on their performance, noting areas of strength and areas requiring improvement
  • Working with staff to proactively identify challenges and recommend possible solutions
  • Meeting performance expectations in areas of efficiency, quality, screening and interviewing completion rates while maintaining confidentiality
  • Participating in weekly individual and group conference calls with a project supervisor and other members of the project team
  • Conducting weekly individual and group conference calls with your assigned staff; participating in training
  • Serving as liaison between RTI project management and the field team, including providing immediate feedback and on-going training when required
  • Using a project-provided laptop computer to obtain reports, make case assignments, and email with project staff
  • Utilizing a secure RTI email account for all communication regarding the project and accessing this account regularly
  • Maintaining good communication with and be accessible to your staff to provide support and answer questions that may arise outside of the weekly conference calls
  • Submitting timely and accurate Time & Expense reports
  • Conducting in-person field observations, when required
  • Being available for overnight travel, as required: 4 trips per year, up to 1 week per trip.
