About The Position

This position is responsible for providing skilled emergency and non-emergency medical services and rescue activities for the MFAEMS service area. This includes responding to emergency medical calls, fire safety assists, hazardous material incidents, and rescue scenes to save lives and reduce morbidity. The role also involves maintaining emergency medical vehicles, equipment, and facilities to ensure operational readiness, and assisting with the coordination of specialized programs such as safety, disaster response, logistics, special operations, training, public education, advanced medical assistance, mentoring, quality improvement, volunteer agency coordination, and mass casualty management. The Field Staff ensures personnel safety and accountability, completes required training, and assists leadership in ensuring compliance with MFAEMS policies, procedures, and all emergency medical services regulations and protocols. Responsibilities include safely operating emergency ambulances and other light duty emergency medical response vehicles, assuming incident command or leadership positions as required for emergency scene management, and responding as needed during off-duty and emergent periods. The position may involve filling in for Captains and Lieutenants, engaging in advanced life support pre-hospital patient care, assessing and requesting resources during emergency operations, and working with various local, state, and federal agencies during specific response activities. Additionally, the role assists in scheduling and assigning MFAEMS resources and supports the Command Team in training, QA/QI, policy development, medical scope of practice, evaluating EMS effectiveness, and vehicle maintenance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
  • Texas EMT-B, AEMT, or Paramedic certification
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800
  • Jurisprudence Exam Completion Certification
  • American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and to pull, push or drag up to 50 pounds of materials and supplies.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use eyes, ears, hands, and fingers to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in emergency situations.
  • Ability to coordinate the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to react calmly and quickly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, and local government officials as well as other city departments and the public.

  • Performing patient care as needed.
  • Assisting in scheduling and assigning MFAEMS resources.
  • Assisting the Command Team in training, QA/QI, development and implementation of training programs, departmental policies and procedures, medical scope of practice, evaluating EMS effectiveness, and maintenance and repairs of EMS vehicles and property.
  • Conferring with city, county, elected officials and representatives of the emergency services community on matters of mutual interest.
