About The Position

Wabtec Field Services Summer Internship Program encourages college students to explore their professional interests while working on real business projects. The program aims to bring academic topics to life, provide exposure to potential job opportunities, and prepare students for future full-time positions in leadership programs or direct hire roles after graduation. Interns will have opportunities for professional, training, and social activities, fostering networking with peers and senior leaders. As an intern with Field Services, you will gain experience as a subject matter expert assisting customers with locomotive maintenance, working alongside Wabtec's Technical and Materials Advisors and customer's mechanical employees in an active locomotive service facility.

Requirements

  • Must be a full-time student (preferably rising Juniors and rising Seniors) enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Strong initiative with the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership roles.
  • Strong desire to learn and develop in diesel/automotive technology, engineering, logistics, manufacturing or other related areas.
  • Ability to communicate technical aptitude, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work for a minimum of 10 weeks (maximum of 12).
  • Willingness to take roles at one of our many Wabtec locations.
  • The ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance throughout the internship.
  • Willingness and ability to work various shifts in a shop environment.
  • A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale after completing a full year of college.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Technical Advisors (TAs) with coordinating and providing instruction on key programs and procedures related to locomotive maintenance/modifications.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships to create repair opportunities and gain access to craftsman labor.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team, driving a "one team" focus dedicated to customer success within the shop.
  • Begin completing Wabtec Level 1 Locomotive Online Training courses.
  • Begin completing Level 1 TA OJT tasks.
  • Learn to navigate Wabtec eServices, catalogs, schematics, and other resources.
  • Gain understanding of emission standards and critical emission components.
  • Complete various short-term projects assigned by the Shop Manager.
  • Perform other duties as required.
