About The Position

Herc-U-Lift, Inc. is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Field Service Technician to join their service and repair team. This fast-paced role involves traveling to customer locations to repair material handling equipment, MEWPs, and rail car movers. The technician will manage their work as a small business, being dispatched from home in a company van and reporting on jobs via a tablet. The primary focus is on responding to customer needs promptly and professionally, building rapport through technical expertise and communication to ensure customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems and/or charging systems.
  • Mechanically inclined with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and ability to quickly learn new software for work orders.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Professional appearance and preparation.

Nice To Haves

  • Some vocational or community college with related coursework.
  • 3+ years direct technician experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines.
  • Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, or other breakdowns of material handling equipment (forklifts, MEWPs, rail car movers, rough terrain lifts).
  • Performs disassembly, repair, and reassembly of various equipment components including engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, brakes, electrical systems, fuel systems, couplers, etc.
  • Collaborates with the parts department to order and install replacement parts.
  • Maintains technical knowledge of all equipment brands.
  • Utilizes tools of the trade, including precision instruments, welding equipment, shop machines, and power tools for repairs and adjustments.
  • Works with minimal supervision and is capable of assisting other technicians.
  • Maintains an inventory of parts carried in the service van.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols.
  • Completes and submits all required paperwork.
  • Provides excellent customer service, including offering additional services.
  • Manages workload effectively.
  • Adapts to changing job duties and responsibilities based on company or customer needs.
