Field Service Technician

Docutrend Inc.•Edison, NJ
•$23 - $31•Onsite

About The Position

We're Docutrend — a New Jersey office technology company that's been keeping businesses up and running for years. We sell and service printers, copiers, and managed print systems for companies all over the region. We're not a national chain. We're local, we're hands-on, and our customers actually know our names. Our senior technicians are some of the best in the business, and we're committed to building a team that carries that standard forward for years to come. We're looking for someone we can bring in, train the right way, and grow into the next cornerstone of our service team. That person could be you, whether you're coming in with years of field experience or you're just starting out. This is a field job. You're not sitting at a desk, you're not answering phones in a call center — you're out every day, driving to client offices, figuring out what's wrong, fixing it, and moving on to the next one. Some days are straightforward. Some days you're tracking down a problem nobody else could solve. Either way, you're the one who makes it right. If you already have experience in this field, we want to hear from you — we'll pay for that knowledge. If you're newer to it but you've always been the one people call when something's broken, we can work with that too. We'd rather train the right person than settle for the wrong one.

Requirements

  • Mechanical instincts — you're the one who always had to see how something works before you put it back together
  • A solid understanding of electronics: circuits, power supplies, and basic electrical troubleshooting
  • IT know-how to set up a network printer, assign an IP, and troubleshoot a driver install
  • Ability to read and follow wiring diagrams, error codes, and service manuals independently
  • A valid NJ driver's license with a clean record
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation
  • People skills – you’ll interact with clients throughout the day, so a professional, approachable manner is essential

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with copiers, printers, or any electronics repair
  • An A+ cert, trade school background, or any technical training
  • Time in a customer-facing role – experience interacting professionally with others in high-pressure situations

Responsibilities

  • Show up to customer locations and diagnose what's wrong with their Canon or Kyocera equipment — then fix it
  • Install new machines and walk clients through the basics so they're not calling us back the next day
  • Handle network and connectivity issues: IP configuration, scanning-to-email, print drivers, the whole picture
  • Take ownership of your assigned route and customer service. Dispatch sets the schedule; you ensure each stop is completed safely, efficiently, and professionally
  • Log your work accurately and keep dispatch in the loop
  • Be someone customers are glad to see walk through the door

Benefits

  • Use of a company vehicle, fuel card, and E-ZPass, with maintenance covered
  • Hands-on training from technicians who've been doing this for decades — not a manual and a wish of good luck
  • A career path that actually goes somewhere: Junior Tech → Senior Tech → Lead Tech. We prioritize promoting from within whenever possible.
  • Performance bonuses — hit your numbers, get paid for it
  • Health benefits, paid time off, retirement plan
  • An opportunity in a field with ongoing demand for equipment maintenance and repair
