About The Position

Bigge Crane and Rigging, a leader in crane services since 1916, is seeking a Field Service Mechanic for its Baton Rouge, LA location. This role is crucial for repairing and maintaining a wide range of heavy equipment, including rough terrain, crawler, and mobile cranes, as well as various forklifts. The primary focus will be on the hands-on service and repair of this equipment. The position requires a willingness to travel for extended periods and be on-call for urgent repairs at customer job sites, often with little notice. Effective communication with customers and colleagues is essential.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years (s) of experience repairing and maintaining rough terrain, crawler, and mobile crane construction equipment; vocational training may be considered in lieu of experience.
Perform annual certifications and inspections.
Ability to perform tasks independently without direct supervision.
Computer literate with the ability to process information.
Strong work ethic with a commitment to quality.
Knowledgeable in troubleshooting various equipment lines, including Manitowoc, Grove, Terex, Tadano, Broderson, Kobelco, and Liebherr cranes.
A history of safe work habits.
Hard worker with a great attitude.
Must supply own hand tools and keep up-to-date tool inventory of service trucks.
Have a clean driving record and can drive a company service truck. Must keep trucks clean and maintained.
A high school diploma is required.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge and experience in assembling and disassembling various crawler cranes are a plus but not required.
Higher education, including vocational training, is a plus.

Responsibilities

Repairing and maintaining rough terrain, crawler, and mobile crane equipment, as well as various types of forklifts, with a primary focus on the service and repair of said equipment.
Must have a strong background in electrical, drive train, engines, hydraulics, and computer-controlled systems.
Will be on-call nights and weekends for crane repairs at customer’s job sites.
Must be able to travel on short notice and be gone overnight, sometimes for several days.
Must communicate effectively and professionally with customers, supervisors, and other personnel.
Able to read schematics (both hydraulic and electrical).
Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
