About The Position

Custom Truck One Source (CTOS) is seeking a Field Service Mechanic/Technician to perform vehicle troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on chassis and track-mounted aerials, digger derricks, cranes, high rail, and other equipment in the field. This role involves working independently to meet dealer and factory standards, ensuring minimal equipment downtime for clients in the utility, telecom, construction, forestry, oil, and rail industries. The position requires a strong understanding of hydraulics, electrical wiring, and diesel systems, with the ability to diagnose and repair complex equipment. The technician will report to the Service Manager and is expected to maintain accurate records, adhere to safety protocols, and communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED.
Five years of related experience (Shop Tech and Field Tech).
Must hold a valid driver's license.
Must have your own tools.
Proficient in documentation using software, meeting deadlines and schedules.
Ability to regularly work in outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions.
Occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat.
Physical capability for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Comfort with heights and manual labor.
Manual dexterity for operating tools and equipment.
Overtime and travel as needed (10-20%).

Nice To Haves

CDL Class B preferred.
Electrical, schematic / blueprints, hydraulic, welding, and related experience.
Experience with Quick Serve, DTNA, or related diagnostic software.
DOT, ANSI, and Dielectric testing desired.

Responsibilities

Perform vehicle troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on chassis and track-mounted aerials, digger derricks, cranes, high rail, and other equipment in accordance with dealer and factory standards.
Read and interpret equipment manuals and repair orders/instructions to perform required maintenance and service.
Utilize a laptop to access needed information and perform diagnostic tests.
Perform work efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with Custom Truck One Source standards.
Diagnose and repair LMI Diagnostics (Load Moment Indicator) and CAN bus (Controller Area Network).
Troubleshoot and repair Utility trucks & Equipment, including electrical and hydraulics.
Inspect and service vehicles and make repairs and adjustments both at the service center and in the field.
Verify work performed and road test vehicles as necessary.
Prepare inspection reports, repair orders (recording service time and parts costs), and timecards completely and accurately.
Tag all warranty and core parts for return.
Advise management immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.
Attend CTOS safety training and follow all safety requirements.
Attend CTOS and factory-sponsored training classes.
Understand and follow federal, state, and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes.
Communicate easily with customers and internal departments to ensure minimal equipment downtime.
Travel beyond the area of coverage, based on business need.
Work closely with Service Manager to grow and improve customer satisfaction.
Perform additional duties or responsibilities as designated by the Service Manager.
