About The Position

Custom Truck One Source (CTOS) is seeking a Field Service Technician/Mechanic with a background in truck-mounted hydraulics, electrical wiring, and diesel engines. This role involves performing inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on various heavy equipment, including Load King Cranes, Bucket/Dump Trucks, Digger Derricks, and Utility Trucks. The technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining chassis and track-mounted aerials, digger derricks, cranes, and high rail equipment, both at the service center and in the field. The position requires the ability to interpret equipment manuals, perform diagnostic tests using a laptop, and accurately document work performed, including service time and parts costs. The technician will also be responsible for preparing inspection reports, repair orders, and timecards, and for tagging warranty and core parts for return. Communication with customers and internal departments is key to minimizing equipment downtime. Flexibility to travel beyond the area of coverage is also required, based on business needs. The role reports to the Service Manager and involves attending safety and factory-sponsored training classes, maintaining a clean work area, and adhering to all safety and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Five years of related experience (Shop Tech and Field Tech).
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have your own tools.
  • Proficient in documentation using software, meeting deadlines and schedules.
  • Ability to regularly work in outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • Moderate to loud noise level in the work environment.
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, Punctual attendance.
  • Physical capability for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift, up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfort with heights and manual labor.
  • Manual dexterity for operating tools and equipment.
  • Must have a Class B CDL or the ability to obtain one upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in truck mounted hydraulics, electrical wiring, diesel.
  • Electrical, schematic / blueprints, hydraulic, welding, and related experience.
  • Experience with Quick Serve, DTNA, or related diagnostic software.
  • DOT, ANSI, and Dielectric testing desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repair of CTOS Equipment: Load King Cranes, Bucket / Dump Trucks, Digger Derricks, Utility Trucks & more.
  • Perform vehicle troubleshooting, repair and maintenance work on chassis and track mounted aerials, digger derricks, cranes, high rail, and other equipment, in accordance with dealer and factory standards, either at the service center or in the field.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and repair orders/instructions to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Utilize laptop to access needed information and perform diagnostic tests.
  • Inspect and service vehicles and make repairs and adjustments both at the service center and in the field.
  • Verify work performed and road test vehicles as necessary.
  • Prepare inspection reports, repair orders (recording service time and parts costs) and timecards completely and accurately.
  • Tag all warranty and core parts for return.
  • Advise management immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.
  • Attend Utility One Source safety training and follow all safety requirements.
  • Attend Utility One Source and factory-sponsored training classes.
  • Keep work area and service vehicles neat and clean and be able to account for all UOS tools when in use.
  • Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes.
  • Communicate easily with customers and internal departments to ensure minimal equipment downtime.
  • Travel beyond the area of coverage, based on business need.
  • Work closely with Service Manager to grow and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Perform additional duties or responsibilities as designated by the Service Manager.
