The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the start-up and commissioning of Control Systems. They will also support engineering and assist with factory testing of products. Familiarity with technologies for turbine generators, including combustion turbines, steam, and hydro units, is a plus. This role is involved in all engineering activities associated with the company's business in the US, Canada, and the Americas. The position requires the engineer to travel up to 90% of their time and stay for extended periods (approximately 6 weeks) on job sites. There is an allowance for the Field Engineer to return home every third weekend, subject to job site activities, and at least one more week of that assignment. The Field Engineer is expected to work in non-air-conditioned and high-humidity environments during equipment removal and installation. Fire-resistant clothing (long sleeves and trousers), safety glasses, steel-toe dielectric boots, and a hard hat are required during site visits (90% of the field engineer’s on-site time). Due to construction, the work environment can be dusty or muddy. The work environment may also have excessive noise from rotating combustion turbine operation coupled with generators, requiring hearing protection devices. Specifically, during equipment removal and installation, a machine grinder will be operating, and a welding machine may be used, generating high noise, small metal pieces, and stress on the eyes due to flash/bright light emissions. Hazard protection is required for such conditions. The company will provide proper PPE. The Field Engineer should be able to lift 50 lbs. Most toolboxes weigh around 45 lbs and may need to be carried up to the turbine deck by climbing stairs. Due to the nature of the service job, the Field Engineer will need to be available for travel on short notice, regardless of the time of day or day of the week. Outages on sites are kept as short as possible to be productive, which requires extended work hours and/or shift work/night work. The Field Engineer should be able to travel to job sites by airplane or car. Field Engineers are required to have a vehicle driver's license and should be able to drive to the work location and back to the resting location (home/hotel).
