About The Position

This entry-level Field Service Engineer I role is designed for recent college graduates with engineering/science degrees or military veterans, particularly those from the Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program, who are accustomed to high-accountability, high-consequence technical environments. The role emphasizes customer satisfaction, technical troubleshooting, and collaborative teamwork. Successful candidates will possess strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, understanding the impact of timely issue resolution in customer environments. They will aim to master both the technical aspects of Multi-Beam Mask Writers and the interpersonal skills needed to interact with critical customers. This position requires an in-person presence at customer sites, aligning with the US headquarters in Santa Clara, CA, and the global R&D team in Austria. This non-exempt role reports to the team lead engineer at IMS America.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Chemical), Physics, or a related STEM field OR successful completion of U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School and prototype training.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Eagerness to bridge theoretical engineering concepts with hands-on machinery troubleshooting.
  • Deep-seated respect for procedural compliance, operational safety, and quality control (QA/QC) (for Navy Nuclear Alumnus profile).
  • Proven track record of diagnosing complex mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems under operational pressure (for Navy Nuclear Alumnus profile).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with enjoyment of being part of and integrating with a global, fast-paced team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting technical updates in high-visibility customer environments.
  • 1+ years of technical field service or hands-on operational system experience (Navy nuclear plant operation/maintenance directly satisfies this).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior metrology or semiconductor lithography equipment support background.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems or high-voltage electronics.
  • Experience in Linux/UNIX server system administration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform activities related to the installation, annual preventive maintenance, and issue resolution of multi-beam mask writers.
  • Ensure IMS-defined methodologies and procedures are followed and provide feedback for improvements.
  • Participate in special task force teams for customer escalations and challenging incidents, maintaining communication with customers and headquarters.
  • Communicate status updates to IMS US leadership.
  • Maintain and build excellent customer relationships with local Tool Owners and other critical customer stakeholders.
  • Attend fab-related customer meetings to update on issue resolution, installation, and Annual Preventive Maintenance activities.
