About The Position

As a Field Service Controls Technician – Robotics & Automation with RHI Magnesita, you will play a critical, customer-facing role supporting the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of advanced refractory application and robotic equipment across multiple industrial sites. This is a high-travel, field-based role (~70%), supporting customers throughout the continental U.S., with a strong focus on the southern region and regular support in York, PA. Candidates should have convenient access to a major airport to support frequent and efficient travel to customer sites. While travel is a core part of the role, it is structured to support work-life balance. Technicians are typically home on weekends, with travel schedules designed to avoid continuous Monday–Friday assignments whenever possible. In addition, you can expect dedicated non-travel time (approximately one week per month) to focus on administrative work, training, and recovery between assignments. You will serve as a key technical expert in both electrical systems and automation controls, ensuring equipment operates safely, reliably, and at peak performance while delivering a best-in-class customer experience.

Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel ~70% (frequent regional and national travel required)
  • 3+ years of experience in field service, commissioning, installation, or maintenance
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills with exposure to industrial automation
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, and control systems (programming not required)
  • Experience supporting automated or robotic equipment in industrial environments
  • Mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving ability
  • Strong customer-facing and communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)

Responsibilities

  • Lead installation, commissioning, and startup of robotic and automated machinery at customer sites
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, controls, and mechanical issues in live production environments
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to ensure optimal system performance
  • Support and train customer technicians and operators on equipment usage and maintenance
  • Provide on-site technical expertise for automation systems, PLCs, and VFDs
  • Coordinate with internal teams and third-party vendors for complex service needs
  • Report machine condition, performance insights, and spare parts requirements
  • Ensure all equipment meets safety, operational, and compliance standards
  • Partner with sales and operations teams to support customer success and continuous improvement
  • Take ownership of service execution and drive high-quality outcomes in the field
