The Field Service and Repair Technician provides advanced technical support for ProMinent equipment with a strong focus on process pump systems. This role is primarily based onsite in Pittsburgh, PA, supporting in-house diagnostics, and repair, while also serving as a key field resource for commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer training. The position combines hands-on technical expertise, problem-solving, and customer engagement, supporting both internal operations and external customers. Field travel is required to support installations and service needs, while maintaining a strong onsite presence to drive repair quality, product testing, and technical knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering technology, or equivalent experience (5+ years).
  • Strong hands-on experience with process pumps, chemical dosing systems, and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of process controls, PLCs, and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency using diagnostic and repair tools (DVM, oscilloscopes, simulators, calibration tools, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to analyze system failures and implement corrective solutions.
  • Experience with repair tracking systems (SAP or similar) and documentation tools (Excel, Word).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity for precision mechanical and electrical work.
  • Comfortable working with electrical systems and around industrial equipment and chemicals.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card, and security clearances as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience specifically with process pumps or fluid handling systems.
  • Prior experience in a dual role (shop + field service) environment.
  • Experience supporting training programs or mentoring junior technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical expert for process pumps, and associated technologies.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and repair of returned equipment, including root cause analysis and failure documentation.
  • Support field service activities including startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer training at jobsites.
  • Act as a key technical resource for customers, distributors, and internal teams, providing guidance on system performance and troubleshooting.
  • Provide phone support for technical inquiries from Channel Partners, Engineers, Contractors, and End-users when not traveling.
  • Communicate clearly with Sales, Engineering, Production, and Customer Support regarding issues, solutions, and timelines.
  • Plan and execute field service assignments from initial scope through reporting and follow-up.
  • Develop and deliver technical training for customers, distributors, and internal teams.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, service reports, and procedures.
  • Support new product testing, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist Production with assembly, testing, and quality verification of process pump systems as needed.
  • Perform diagnosis, repair, and refurbishment of returned pump systems and components.
  • Maintain detailed logs of repairs, status updates, and service history using SAP and internal systems.
  • Follow incoming repair workflow including receiving, tracking, evaluation, and customer communication.
  • Ensure proper handling of RGA processes and compliance documentation (e.g., contaminant declarations).
  • Test returned equipment to evaluate condition, identify failure modes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Travel to customer sites for equipment startup and commissioning along with troubleshooting and training operators.
  • Support internal and external training programs through hands-on instruction and presentations.
