About The Position

Fortress Power is seeking a Field Service and Applications Engineer based in Puerto Rico to provide technical support and field service for installers and homeowners. This role involves remote diagnosis, on-site visits, and bench teardown of returned hardware to identify root causes. The engineer will manage a ticket queue, troubleshoot systems, provide commissioning support, contribute to system design and sizing, diagnose faults across various layers, perform hands-on hardware repair, and manage warranty dispositions. The position requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and a proactive approach to managing workload and documentation.

Requirements

  • Professional fluency in both Spanish and English for daily technical support.
  • Must be based in Puerto Rico.
  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency; ability to manage a heavy ticket volume independently and set priorities.
  • Hands-on technical depth with experience in solar PV, battery storage, or inverter installation, service, or manufacturing.
  • Sufficient electrical fundamentals to reason from measurements rather than just symptom lists.
  • Disciplined documentation skills; ability to ensure all actions are recorded in tickets.
  • Adaptable to changing products, procedures, and tools.

Nice To Haves

  • NABCEP certification, an electrical license, or equivalent trade credential.
  • Experience with third-party inverter ecosystems and CAN/RS485 networked energy systems.
  • Component-level repair or lab experience on power electronics and battery management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage inbound technical calls, tickets, chat, and email from installers, distributors, and homeowners, including the Spanish-language queue.
  • Perform live remote troubleshooting, including reading faults, directing measurements, interpreting results, and providing clear instructions.
  • Provide commissioning and start-up support, including configuration, communication setup, and firmware verification.
  • Offer design and sizing input for new and existing systems, covering inverter selection, battery bank sizing, compatibility, and PV integration.
  • Diagnose faults across electrical, firmware, and communication layers, including CAN/RS485 links, monitoring gateways, and third-party inverter ecosystems.
  • Conduct field visits when remote resolution is exhausted, with the goal of closing tickets the same day with findings and photo evidence.
  • Perform hands-on hardware work, including teardown, bench testing, component-level repair, and validation.
  • Manage warranty and RMA disposition, ensuring documented deflection steps are completed before replacement approval.
  • Create and maintain knowledge base articles, installation guides, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting documentation.

Benefits

  • Real autonomy in managing your work and pace.
  • Variety in daily tasks, including remote diagnosis, field visits, and bench repair.
  • Direct impact on customer satisfaction and system uptime.
  • Opportunity to grow with a scaling company.
