Field Property Adjuster - York, ME
About The Position
National General, a part of The Allstate Corporation, is seeking an experienced Field Property Adjuster to investigate and evaluate homeowners property claims from start to finish. This role involves confirming facts of loss, determining coverage, assessing damages, and negotiating settlements within assigned authority. The adjuster will manage the entire claim lifecycle, including supplements, Additional Living Expense (ALE) claims, contents, and personal property losses. A key aspect of this position is delivering excellent customer service through clear, timely communication, keeping customers informed and supported throughout the claims process. The ideal candidate will be located near Hollis Center, ME/ York County or within a 1-hour radius, possess proficiency in Xactimate, and have a strong foundation in claims handling. Experience in both field and desk settings is strongly preferred, as is holding an active adjuster license or one that qualifies for reciprocity in applicable states.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Xactimate.
- Strong foundation in claims handling, including supplements, ALE, contents, and full claim ownership.

- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Must terminate all existing appointments prior to onboarding and must not hold any outside appointments at any point during employment.
- Applicants seeking an adjuster role who also hold a resident producer license must formally surrender that license when instructed to by the licensing team.
Nice To Haves
- Experience handling claims in both field and desk settings is strongly preferred.
- Holds an active adjuster license or possess a license that qualifies for reciprocity in the applicable states is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and evaluate homeowners property claims from start to finish.
- Confirm the facts of loss, determine coverage, and assess damages.
- Negotiate settlements within assigned authority.
- Manage the entire claim lifecycle, including supplements, Additional Living Expense (ALE) claims, contents, and personal property losses.
- Work closely with customers, contractors, and other partners to ensure claims are handled accurately and efficiently.
- Deliver excellent customer service through clear, timely communication.
- Exhibit mastery of estimating fundamentals to create estimates of damages on complex 1st party homeowner losses.
- Build mastered relationships with both internal and external customers.
- Interpret regulatory compliance and fair claims practices.
- Make settlement payments and document all activities in complex files.
- Apply mastered content in interpretations of all policy types written by the company.
- Assist leadership in formal and ad hoc training.
- Recommend process improvements.
