About The Position

The Field Operator supports terminal operations for Volvo Autonomous Solutions in Hutchins, Texas. The role combines Class A driving with operational coordination, safety inspections, driver mentorship, and equipment readiness. The Field Operator works with the Operations Manager and Dispatch and has authority to prevent unsafe equipment from going on the road. The employer will help the operator obtain CVSA Enhanced Certification.

The position involves operating Class 8 tractors and 53-foot trailers for hub-to-hub transports and maintenance shuttling, conducting DOT inspections, organizing terminal and customer documentation, and training incoming drivers on GeoTab, E-Logs, dispatch procedures, and terminal protocols. It is an active role requiring frequent entry and exit from the cab and physical activity during inspections and trailer coupling.

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
• At least 2 years of experience in the last 36 months pulling 53-foot trailers.
• Up-to-date Medical Card.
• Comfort with in-cab technology, GPS, and E-Logs.
• Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and commitment to high professional safety standards.
• Ability to pull, reach, bend, and climb for inspections and coupling.
• Strong communication skills.
• Must undergo a comprehensive regulatory driver background check, including review of driving history, safety performance, and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations; eligibility depends on driving record, safety incidents, and disqualifying violations within defined timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Support the designated terminal by managing tractor keys, organizing customer documentation, and ensuring the fleet is mission-ready.
• Conduct DOT inspections and help ensure tractors meet safety standards.
• Train incoming drivers on GeoTab, E-Logs, dispatch procedures, and terminal protocols.
• Operate Class 8 tractors and 53-foot trailers for hub-to-hub transports and maintenance shuttling.
• Make decisions to have unsafe equipment repaired before it goes on the road.
• Communicate with Dispatch and Operations about relevant activities and issues.
