About The Position
Sehlhorst Equipment Services (SES), a fast-growing site development, excavation, and underground utility contractor established in 1985, is looking for an experienced Layout Engineer with strong GPS and experience to support our civil construction projects. You'll provide field layout, GPS control, site work, grading, underground utilities, and demolition projects. You'll work closely with foremen, project managers, and field crews to keep projects accurate and on track.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience in construction layout, surveying, or field engineering (civil, site work, or utility construction preferred)
- Strong GPS. Topcon GPS/Total Station experience a plus
- Ability to read civil/utility drawings and construction plans
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Valid driver's license with a clean record
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with Topcon Office, Carlson IntelliCAD, Pix4D, Agtek, or Bluebeam a plus
- Drone pilot license/mapping experience a plus
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Construction Management preferred, but equivalent field experience is welcome
Responsibilities
- Perform construction layout and staking for site work, grading, excavation, utilities, and demolition
- Establish and maintain jobsite control points, benchmarks, and GPS localizations
- Operate GPS rover/base systems, total stations, and lasers to transfer plans to the field
- Review plans and drawings to catch discrepancies before work begins
- Communicate layout data clearly to field and office teams
