About The Position

This position involves working in the 5 boroughs of New York City and Westchester to identify electrical structures and test them for potential stray voltage using a standard fluke multimeter and high-density voltage detector. The employee will be required to read a utility strip map, drive to the location, and then walk the outlined coordinates. This position requires the ability to walk approximately 3-7 miles daily. Time management skills and the ability to work independently are essential functions of this position. Upon successful completion of the training period, the employee will be promoted to a Level 1 Technician.

Requirements

  • Effective Communication skills.
  • Ability to operate and navigate mapping functions on tablet.
  • Ability to act with integrity and respect of personal or public property.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather.
  • Ability to report to jobsite daily and travel to a new location upon request at any time throughout local PPS service territories.
  • Ability to drive between 5 and 100 miles (approximately) daily in a responsible manner.
  • Personal transportation available to and from job site.
  • Valid Driver’s License for at least one year.
  • Ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push and/or pull, twist and make repetitive hand movements.
  • Ability to load, carry, lift, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Sitting or standing for prolonged period of time required.
  • Must have the ability to safely operate a motorized vehicle.
  • Complies with all safety rules and regulations set forth by PPS.
  • Pass and retain Operation Qualifications as set forth by the utility companies’ standards, employment is contingent on the passing of Operator Qualifications during training.

Nice To Haves

  • If any required OQ is failed upon requalification, the employee will be responsible to schedule training and testing which will be on their own time.

Responsibilities

  • Visually examine manholes, pull boxes and service boxes. Some are located in / on sidewalks others are located in the road.
  • Use a standard fluke multimeter and high-density voltage detector to note errant current, flaws in utility poles and other outlined criteria.
  • Adhere to safety standards as defined by PPS's safety standards and procedures.
  • Maintain polite and professional interactions with the public.
  • Adhere to PPS dress code.
