About The Position

This role involves providing direct patient care within a pediatric setting, utilizing the nursing process to ensure accurate and up-to-date patient records. The position requires comprehensive patient assessments, including physical, psychological, and social dimensions, and the development of discharge plans. Responsibilities extend to acting as a charge nurse, demonstrating proficiency in nursing informatics, serving as a resource person for patient care and staff education, and participating in unit meetings and mandatory education. The role also involves contributing to quality improvement initiatives, maintaining patient confidentiality, and representing the hospital positively within the community and internally. Service excellence to all stakeholders is a key expectation. The position also requires adherence to safety policies and procedures, and a commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.

Requirements

  • Must read, write and communicate in English
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Basic Life Support Certification required
  • Completion of an approved de-escalation Certification Course within 90 days from hire (course offered within)
  • Successful passage of CCH’s Pharmacology exam
  • Minimum of 1-year current acute care RN experience required

Nice To Haves

  • BSN Preferred
  • Recent Pediatric experience within 2 years in an acute care facility
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification preferred
  • Prior pediatric experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans. Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
  • Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
  • Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year and attends mandatory education programs.
  • Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care. Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
  • Assesses personal learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served. Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
  • Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.
