Field Event Manager, SF

Exa•San Francisco, CA
•$175,000 - $240,000•Onsite

About The Position

Exa is seeking its first Field Marketing Manager in San Francisco to build and own the regional events program. Events are central to Exa’s marketing strategy, and the role will create ways for developers building with AI and enterprise leaders to discover and experience Exa. The manager will develop strategic, carefully crafted events for audiences across the buying group, from developer hackathons and conferences to invite-only executive dinners. This founding-team role will build the regional program from the ground up, working with Sales to identify attendees, shape event concepts, and connect programs to measurable pipeline. The role balances brand awareness with pipeline generation across executive dinners, networking receptions, hackathons, third-party sponsorships, partner events, and other formats. It partners with Account Executives and SDRs to cover the West Coast territory and key accounts, and uses event learnings to improve future programs and processes. The position is based in person at Exa’s San Francisco headquarters. Success is measured through program quality, execution, attendance, MQLs, pipeline sourced and influenced, target-account engagement, meetings, qualified opportunities, developer sign-ups, repeat engagement, and program impact per dollar. The manager owns event strategy and budgets, end-to-end execution, sales alignment, follow-up, vendor relationships, and AI-first operational processes.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in field marketing or event marketing at a B2B technology company, including ownership of a regional program.
  • Experience running events for technical and developer audiences as well as enterprise buyers.
  • Demonstrated ability to own a pipeline number and forecast and report on event performance.
  • Ability to build effective partnerships with Sales, including managing requests that are not the right investment.
  • Knowledge of venues, vendors, and event approaches that attract developers and senior technical buyers in the Bay Area and beyond.
  • Experience managing event budgets, timelines, and vendor negotiations.
  • Growth mindset and willingness to use feedback and learnings to improve programs.
  • Experience using AI to reduce operational workload.
  • Ability to create relevant experiences for developer and AI-native audiences, with a strong interest in trends and conversations shaping what builders care about.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at an early-stage company where work moved quickly and programs had to be built to scale.
  • Experience pioneering and successfully executing an innovative event format or strategy, or building an event playbook from scratch.
  • Experience developing booth designs and strategies that drive lead generation.
  • Familiarity with event technology for registration, badge scanning, and on-site capture, and how it connects to CRM.
  • Experience building and refining event-performance reporting.
  • Experience informing event content, including relevant AI topics, speakers, and experiences.
  • Experience engaging AI-native audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Own the regional event strategy, including event formats, cities, target audiences, budgets, and alignment with quarterly pipeline goals.
  • Develop event plans with Sales input and support them with a clear pipeline rationale.
  • Manage events end to end, from concept through post-event follow-up, including venue sourcing, vendor and production coordination, invitations, content and messaging, run of show, and on-site execution.
  • Partner with Account Executives and SDRs to identify target accounts and personas, develop event playbooks, and generate meetings and pipeline.
  • Coordinate timely lead handoff and follow-up sequences with SDRs, Lifecycle Marketing, and Marketing Operations.
  • Measure enterprise programs by target-account engagement, meetings booked, and qualified opportunities, and developer events by new sign-ups and repeat engagement.
  • Own event budgets, vendor selection and negotiation, and cost per qualified lead.
  • Use AI to streamline invite-list development, personalized outreach, vendor research, run-of-show preparation, and post-event recaps.
  • Gather learnings from events and optimize future programs and processes.
