About The Position

The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) is seeking a detail-oriented, part-time Field Enumerator. This role supports the organization by collecting agricultural data on behalf of the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). The position involves interviewing farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural businesses, either in person or by phone, and occasionally traveling to fields for crop counts. The ideal candidate is passionate about agriculture, possesses strong communication and organizational skills, and can work independently while representing NASDA positively.

Requirements

  • Experience multitasking in an energetic, deadline-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to make crop counts in designated fields.
  • Ability to maintain a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Ability to conduct interviews in person or by telephone with farm operators and other individuals.
  • Knowledge about computers or iPads.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Organized.
  • Able to maintain a positive and friendly attitude.
  • Must pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Interview farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural businesses in person or on the phone.
  • Travel to designated fields to perform crop counts.
  • Maintain and deliver detailed and legible records of interviews, crop counts, mileage, and hours worked.
  • Conduct enumerator work from a residence with an operable telephone free from distractions.
  • Positively represent NASDA and the benefits of enumerators in all survey actions.
