About The Position

A Field Engineer III performs as a lead on more complex field engineering assignments and performs a variety of engineering assignments involving technology applications involved in the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of complex electronic/mechanical equipment and systems. The employee will be responsible for applying knowledge of design specifications for more complex systems/projects, coordinating with other engineering disciplines, verifying documentation standards, preparing technical papers, supporting technical proposals, developing technical documentation, interfacing with customers, conducting site visits, and analyzing engineering problems. Specific areas of expertise include HF/UHV/VHF ground-to-air radio communications equipment, switches, routers and networking equipment, cable television systems, P25 Land Mobile Radio Systems and repeaters, Air Traffic Control operations centers, Navigation ground systems, and Metrological/Weather systems. The role requires excellent technical skills and a willingness to perform field maintenance duties.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree in engineering or other technical discipline, or formal academic/vocational/military training
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the specialty field
  • Broad knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of engineering that enable senior technical contributor-level performance on complex projects or programs
  • Knowledge and skill sufficient to apply developments in engineering to solve problems in the specialty area
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs
  • Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Planning/organizational skills
  • Must have excellent technical skills.
  • Must have a willingness to perform field maintenance duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) transmission principals.
  • Ability to use basic test equipment.
  • General electronics, electro-mechanical, and computer systems.
  • Understanding basic networking technology and telecommunications technologies.
  • Knowledge in CISCO communications equipment.
  • ISCET certification may be required.
  • Associate or technical school with courses in math, basic electronics.
  • Excellent technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of design specifications for more complex systems/projects
  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
  • Prepare, deliver, and submit technical papers and perform engineering duties.
  • Support development of technical proposals and provide comments on technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.
  • Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
  • Directly interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews, and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct site visits, experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
  • Work with HF/UHV/VHF ground-to-air radio communications equipment.
  • Work with switches, routers and networking equipment.
  • Work with cable television systems to include head-ends building and television installation and troubleshooting.
  • Work with P25 Land Mobile Radio Systems and repeaters.
  • Work with Air Traffic Control operations centers.
  • Work with Navigation ground systems to include ILS/VOR/TACANS.
  • Work with Metrological/Weather systems.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as required
