About The Position

Field Engineers are emerging leaders who thrive in a collaborative, team-driven environment. As a Field Engineer I, you'll work hands-on alongside the Superintendent to coordinate trade partners and keep our Greensboro-area projects executing cleanly. It's a firsthand role in bringing construction projects to life — and a chance to sharpen your skills in site supervision, quality control, and safety while building toward Field Engineer II and, ultimately, Assistant Superintendent. Your mission is straightforward: support the Superintendent and project team in delivering every project The Samet Way, upholding our commitment to excellence at every stage. You'll spend your days in the field — promoting safety and quality, documenting progress, and learning the craft from people who do it exceptionally well. You'll also participate in and contribute to project meetings, including MPRs, Financial Reviews, OACs, Project Coordination Meetings, Morning Huddles, Coordination Meetings, Pre-Awards, Pre-Installation Meetings, and Safe Start and Quality Start meetings. Reliable personal transportation is expected, and travel will be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • OSHA 30 training and certification (required of all field associates).
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam and familiarity with other construction software.
  • Experience collaborating on quality assurance and safety initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of plans, specifications, and construction documentation processes.
  • An understanding of project schedules and the ability to help keep them on track.
  • The ability to take clear direction and execute independently, without repeated hands-on management.
  • Strong organization, time management, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and non-verbally.
  • The ability to build trust and maintain confidence among team members and stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety and an injury-free job site.
  • Initiative in problem-solving and a passion for learning and building a career in construction management.
  • A keen interest in advancing into the Field Engineer II and Assistant Superintendent (ASUP) roles.
  • A complete understanding of the responsibilities of a Field Engineer I — and an understanding of and fit with the Samet culture.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, industry-standard construction software, and SharePoint.
  • Able to collaborate via Zoom or Teams and type professional correspondence.
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percentage; and draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Able to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions, and resolve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience managing RFIs, submittals, and punch lists is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with field oversight throughout all phases of assigned construction projects.
  • Review, understand, and execute Samet's TSWs as they relate to field management.
  • Review project schedules against onsite progress; monitor and document progress and recommend corrective actions to keep projects on track.
  • Keep the Site Superintendent informed on subcontractor progress to support schedule updates and coordination.
  • Review, comprehend, and help execute Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs and the Site-Specific Quality Plan.
  • Review, comprehend, and help execute and document the Site-Specific Safety Plan.
  • Spend your time in the field promoting safety and quality, documenting all site progress in Procore daily, tracking schedule advances or slips, and engaging subcontractors to grow your knowledge as a field manager.
  • Promote and advance an injury-free job site through Samet's award-winning safety program, and support the Company's safety/ERM initiatives.
  • Understand quality expectations and STOP any work that does not support the project's Quality Management Plan.
  • Apply a working knowledge of building techniques, materials, basic functional design, and construction equipment.
  • Use basic construction tools (hammers, hand tools, rulers, measuring devices, and engineering and architectural scales).
  • Perform small carpentry tasks (hand/guard rails, temp doors, floor hole covers, wall blocking, basic hardware and toilet accessories).
  • Perform small site tasks (dewatering footings, excavations and forms, debris cleanup, moving materials, and coordinating delivery and site logistics).
  • Engage with the team in developing the project PMP.
  • Review and understand the owner contract before beginning work, along with trade partner scopes, contracts, and boilerplates.
  • Engage in morning huddles, team huddles, trade partner coordination, and owner meetings.
  • Identify the source of a problem and find solutions using facts, data, and past knowledge.
  • Work with the Superintendent to ensure all required project documentation is entered into Procore daily.
  • Complete Samet University courses on their required dates, and use Samet University and Builders Building Builders to grow your construction knowledge.
  • Conduct business professionally and ethically, minimizing risk to Samet, project owners, and trade partners.
  • Deliver the level of customer service our clients, trade partners, and team members expect.
