About The Position

The Bureau of Enforcement and Taxpayer Assistance (BETA) is looking for a Field Enforcement Agent 1 who is ready for an exciting and purposeful career. Requirements

  • Four years of experience in tax investigation work; or Four years of experience in collections operations in a business, commercial, industrial, government, or finance office; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possess an active motor vehicle license.
  • Reside in Allegheny County.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.
  • Must meet eligibility qualifiers for CLEAN access (Criminal convictions may limit ability for employment).

Responsibilities

  • Observe and assist experience agents with investigations of businesses and individuals
  • Help conduct searches, surveillance, and interviews and review records to identify and document suspected violations
  • Canvas areas to find unregistered businesses, assist with road details, and participate in other fieldwork
  • Learn to determine the total amount an individual or business owes, their ability to pay, and identify actions needed based on evidence and requirements
  • Observe and assist with preparing investigative reports for potential legal action and implementing collection techniques, payment plans, and procedures
  • Communicate with taxpayers, businesses, and agencies to gather information, provide education to encourage voluntary compliance, and support enforcement efforts
