About The Position

We are looking for a Field Electrical Engineer to provide technical discipline support across the organization, ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient electrical power distribution systems to support critical mining operations. Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer and working collaboratively with operations, maintenance, reliability, and project teams, you will be responsible for maintaining and administering site electrical standards, policies, and practices in compliance with regulatory, industry, and Rio Tinto requirements. You will act as a subject matter expert for high, medium, and low voltage power distribution systems and as custodian for site fault studies, arc flash studies, and protection calculations. This role involves providing engineering support to operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot, optimize, and continuously improve electrical power distribution systems, as well as supporting design, procurement, installation, commissioning, quality assurance, and handover activities for capital projects. Additionally, you will support the development and adherence to capital and operating budgets, maintain and expand technical knowledge through ongoing professional development, and support technicians and electricians with day-to-day troubleshooting of electrical systems. You will also be responsible for developing and reviewing electrical drawings, power system studies, and power distribution equipment specifications, as well as supporting upgrades to obsolete or unsupported power distribution equipment and participating in risk assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in engineering and/or maintenance
  • EIT designation or ability to take and pass the FE Electrical and Computer exam
  • Knowledge of MV and LV switchgear, protection relays, VFDs, motor control centers, and power transformers
  • Experience with AcSELerator QuikSet and SEL Synchrowave Event software
  • Experience using electrical power system analysis software (e.g. ETAP)
  • Ability to interpret electrical power distribution drawings
  • Experience facilitating design reviews
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficiency in computer‑aided design software (AutoCAD or similar)
  • Experience developing and implementing commissioning plans for complex systems
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong critical thinking, data analysis, and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong multi‑tasking and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and administering site electrical standards, policies, and practices in compliance with regulatory, industry, and Rio Tinto requirements
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for high, medium, and low voltage power distribution systems
  • Acting as custodian for site fault studies, arc flash studies, and protection calculations
  • Providing engineering support to operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot, optimize, and continuously improve electrical power distribution systems
  • Supporting design, procurement, installation, commissioning, quality assurance, and handover activities for capital projects
  • Supporting development and adherence to capital and operating budgets
  • Maintaining and expanding technical knowledge through ongoing professional development
  • Supporting technicians and electricians with day‑to‑day troubleshooting of electrical systems
  • Developing and reviewing electrical drawings including single‑line diagrams and schematics
  • Developing and reviewing power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analysis
  • Commissioning new or modified electrical power distribution systems
  • Updating drawings and documentation to reflect as‑built conditions in accordance with management of change requirements
  • Developing and reviewing power distribution equipment specifications for procurement
  • Supporting upgrades to obsolete or unsupported power distribution equipment
  • Participating in risk assessments to support project planning and execution
