About The Position

The Outreach Team is a premier national field firm partnering with organizations working to solve major societal problems, such as defending reproductive rights. They are hiring Field Directors to manage their offices in Oakland County, MI. The Field Director will be responsible for recruiting, training, and managing a team of local canvassers to contact voters at the door and increase the community's political power. This role involves working with the director team to build an office from the ground up, leading by example through canvassing, communicating goals, and managing campaign reporting. The Field Director manages canvassers and Team Leads and reports to the Lead Director. The Lead Campaign Director manages Deputy Directors and is responsible for building an office to scale from the ground up, reporting to the Project Director. Deputy Directors report to the Lead Director.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience; ability to motivate, grow, and manage a large team
  • Eagerness to lead from the front and canvass several days a week
  • Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement
  • Track record of equity and inclusion
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Experience running paid canvasses or managing paid employees
  • Familiarity with VAN and MiniVAN
  • Experience working in underserved or marginalized communities
  • Facilitation experience
  • Local knowledge/experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 40–60 hourly staff who will canvass door to door to talk to voters about defending immigrant rights and growing Latino political power
  • Canvass yourself several days a week to train staff and drive office goals
  • Set goals and hold staff accountable to them
  • Train and provide ongoing motivation and support to staff
  • Identify, promote, and train a leadership team
  • Build a diverse team where staff feel respected while fostering a culture of equity and justice
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the integrity of the work
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all staff
  • Develop strategic plans to reach targeted voters in assigned locations
  • Manage administrative duties, including reporting data, record keeping, processing payroll, and distribution of materials
