About The Position

The Field Diesel Mechanic – Customer Equipment Solutions (Service Tech IV - Field Service - CES) performs maintenance and repairs on complex customer-owned equipment, with limited or no supervision. The work involves mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems, and requires independent judgment and a safe, professional approach. The role includes traveling to customer job sites, providing exceptional customer service, supporting lower-level technicians, and demonstrating equipment to customers. The position is designated Safety Sensitive under United Rentals’ policies and procedures.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
At least 5 years of experience repairing or maintaining equipment and tools.
Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools.
Knowledge of construction equipment and a strong mechanical background, including knowledge of various engines.
Advanced understanding of schematics and diagrams.
Must own tools applicable to the position.
Superior customer service, teamwork, and verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to frequently lift items weighing up to 45 lbs.

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a variety of rental and customer equipment and tools, using a high degree of independent judgment.
Travel to customer job sites to repair and maintain customer-owned equipment.
Keep the service vehicle clean and professional.
Assist in training lower-level technicians as needed.
Complete paperwork and electronic work-order documentation accurately and promptly each day.
Upsell and demonstrate a wide array of complex equipment to customers.
Assist with equipment and parts pickup and delivery.
Perform other duties as assigned.
