About The Position

Mimecast is seeking a Director-level Field CISO for its Security function, reporting directly to the Global Field CISO. This role, based in Columbus, Ohio, requires two days per week in the office. The Field CISO will serve as the primary trusted security advisor for Mimecast's most strategic accounts in North America (United States and Canada). This is not a pre-sales or support role, but rather operates at the intersection of customer success, executive advisory, and industry thought leadership. The individual will extend the Global Field CISO’s strategy into the region, leveraging their own credibility, relationships, and point of view to enhance customer security. The role focuses on helping CISOs navigate the human risk challenge, emphasizing that most breaches stem from human behavior and require visibility across various digital platforms. The Field CISO will connect Mimecast's proven platform and community of practitioners to local customer pain points at the executive level, embodying Mimecast's standard of delivering a remarkable customer experience.

Requirements

  • Depth of experience in enterprise information security, with 10+ years in a leadership role.
  • At least 3 years as a CISO, VP of Security, or equivalent within an enterprise.
  • Lived operational experience is non-negotiable.

  • Advanced certifications: CISSP, CRISC, CISM, GCEIT, or GIAC equivalent.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence C-suite and board audiences with credibility and humility.
  • Prior exposure to both U.S. and Canadian markets.
  • Cross-cultural fluency across North American business environments.
  • Comfortable operating as a Director-level individual contributor, highly self-directed without requiring day-to-day management oversight.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Guide customers through insider risk strategy, Incydr deployment, AI agent risk, and enterprise risk frameworks, translating Mimecast platform capabilities into measurable business outcomes.
  • Support customers through audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance programs across a fragmented regional landscape (e.g., SOC 2, HIPAA, GLBA, NYDFS, PIPEDA).
  • Serve as the first point of contact for customer security problems, regardless of whether they directly relate to Mimecast products.
  • Represent Mimecast at major North American security conferences (e.g., RSA Conference, Black Hat USA, Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit) and sector-specific events to advance the human risk narrative.
  • Author whitepapers, research reports, and opinion pieces on human risk, insider threat, AI security, and the evolving threat landscape, contributing to Mimecast’s State of Human Risk research program.
  • Build and sustain a credible public profile across North America to extend the Global Field CISO’s reach and reinforce Mimecast’s position as a human risk authority.
  • Partner with sales on security-sensitive enterprise deals to shorten sales cycles and lift win rates through advisory credibility, especially in regulated sectors.
  • Support land-and-expand motions by deepening relationships within existing accounts and identifying opportunities for expanded Mimecast platform adoption.
  • Log all advisory-linked opportunities in CRM to build evidence for Field CISO ROI and demonstrate how security advisory translates to customer outcomes.
  • Feed structured customer insights back to product and engineering teams, identifying gaps in human risk capabilities, Incydr controls, AI governance features, and secure-by-default configurations.
  • Advocate for reductions in customer audit and compliance efforts by pushing for product changes that simplify evidencing conformance.
