Field Archaeologist - On-Call (Northern California)
About The Position
ICF is seeking On-Call (Temporary) Archaeologists based in the Sacramento, San Francisco Bay Area, or Northern California. The On-Call/Temporary Archaeologist will primarily assist senior archaeologists in fieldwork, including tasks such as survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, and construction monitoring. Additional duties may involve laboratory analysis, conducting background research, assisting with report preparation, and other assigned tasks. This role requires strong field skills, the ability to identify precontact and historic-period artifacts, and meticulous field note-taking. The position may involve travel for up to 10 days and requires working outdoors in various weather conditions. On-Call employees are scheduled for work as hours become available, with the flexibility to accept or decline assignments. They are also permitted to work on concurrent projects outside of ICF, provided there is no conflict of interest.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field
- 1+ years of field experience in archaeological monitoring and survey
- Valid driver's license
- Successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check
- Ability to identify precontact and historic-period artifacts
- Ability to take detailed field notes
- Ability to work outdoors under all weather conditions
Nice To Haves
- Field experience in northern and central California
- Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with ICF senior staff and construction personnel
- Knowledge and familiarity with computers and smart devices
- Background in precontact or historic-period archaeology
- Ability to conduct field visits at locations throughout northern and central California
- Cross training in paleontological monitoring
- Mission-era experience or training
- Osteology experience or training
- Active 40-hour HAZWOPER training
